On Sunday February 12, we will begin our small group studies entitled Honor Begins at Home.  The women’s small group leaders are Susan Fore, Kathrine Spena, and Cheyenne Megenity.  The men’s small group leaders are Bro. Randy, Bro. Kyle, and Ted Naman.  The session will begin with a joint opening in the Sanctuary at 4:45 as we all consider the scope and focus of the studies.  Our leaders will be using material from the Honor Begins at Home and Resolutions for both men and women associated with the movie “Courageous.”  We are not assigning people to a small group because we would like for everyone to be free to join the group they feel is best for them.  Bro. Randy’s small group will focus on blended families and single parent families because not everyone falls into the traditional, or nuclear family, category.

   In addition to Honor Begins at Home we will have additional studies.  On Tuesday morning, Susan Fore will use the material from Resolutions for Women as a women’s Bible study (date to be announced).  On Tuesday evenings, beginning February 21, two new studies begin.  The Divorce Care class is designed to help people through the process of healing after divorce and the Discovering Intimacy class is designed to help singles in their relationship with God and others as they experience great commandment love in all relationships.  Both of these studies are under the umbrella of our church Year of the Family ministry as we seek to provide care for those families dealing with divorce and those living single.

             ”Families Built on the Right Foundation” 

The institution of marriage as we know it in America today is under attack. The secular progressive society in which we live could care less about the sanctity of Christian marriage. As a result, families are in trouble – BIG trouble.

Divorce rates continue to soar. According to the US Census Bureau in 2006 there were 2.3 million marriages and 1.2 million divorces. The stats remain the same today: 50% of all first-time marriages end in divorce. Over 30 million Americans are divorced. That is approximately 10% of our total population.

What is the effect on our children? Among the millions of children who have seen their parents’ divorce, one of every 10 will also live through three or more parental marriage breakups before they leave home. Behavioral problems are the norm. Teenage attempted suicide rates are sky-rocketing.

What can we do about this ever-troubling situation? How can we turn it around? Our only hope to save marriages in America is for husbands and wives to commit their lives to a personal relationship in Jesus Christ.

This Sunday in our message entitled “Families Built on the Right Foundation,” we will seek to discover God’s answer to saving our marriages and families.
